Each year more and more women wish to enlarge or reshape their breasts. Each of us always dreams of being physically desirable and to make everybody envy them around. It is a stereotype that perfect breasts make a woman more desirable, so it is no wonder why these operations are so frequently carried out. After pregnancy women can feel that they are not as attractive as before making plastic surgery a very desirable option to creating the body they had before.
The implants
Material: silicone gel ( medical grade silicone )
Leader manufacturers: Eurosilicone, Johnson & Johnson, Allergan
Breast enlargement is a surgical procedure to enhance the size and shape of a woman's breast by an artifical material.
The operation will be performed under general anaesthetic and will take approx. 1-2 hours. To create symmetrical breasts different size of prosthesis are used on each sides. The implants are placed either underneath the breast tissues or breast muscle. An incision - approx. 3-5 cm long - may be made in the crease of the underside of the breast or lower edge of the areola. Once the incision is made, the surgeon will create a pocket for the implant to lie in. Your size and shape will determine the outcome of the position of the implant and will be discussed fully at consultations with your surgeon.
You may also have drainage tubes in your breasts - these will be removed usually the day after your surgery. |

Implants give breasts a natural shape and feel. The result is quite long-lasting but by natural ageing the breasts will lose their flexibility and shape. In this case an after-treatment can be carried out: uplifting the breasts ( uplifting is often combined with enlargement ).

Before your surgery
If you have considered having children in future, it is better to wait until completing your family as the fluctuation in breast size during pregnancy will alter the surgeries' outcome.
One day before the operation all the necessary examinations will be performed in the clinic: mammography ( mostly for mature women, aged 40 + ), lungs x-ray, EKG, a blood test and an urine test.
If you are a smoker, or you are taking medications, you need to inform your surgeon - he will advise you when you are to discontinue and / or resume these activities.
The operation should be planned according to your monthly period. Painkillers should be taken 2 weeks prior the operation ( such as Aspirin ) because they have blood clotting effect.
It is not recommended to consume sleeping pills nor alcohol before/after your surgery until told you can do so.
You will need to stay overnight in the clinic and leave the following day.
After your surgery
A breast enlargement is performed by general anaesthesia, so the patient will be asleep through the entire operation.
When you wake up from the anaesthesia you will have stitches in place, covered with dressings and your sports bra in place. There may be drainage tubes in place to collect any leakage of blood - these will be removed before you leave the clinic. You will be given antibiotics and painkillers to take: it is normal to experience discomfort following breast enlargement and you will be advised to get rest at home to assist recovery.
It is necessary for you to refrain from bathing, for approx. 3 weeks. You will also be asked to sleep on your back for the first few weeks.
Your breasts will be firm and swollen at first, and will take several weeks to settle and adapt a more natural position and feel.
Your stitches, unless dissolvable, will be removed 2-3 weeks after your operation, or in accordance with your surgeon’s instructions, and you must continue to wear the sports bra day and night for up to 2 months as you will feel more comfortable.
If you have young children you will need to arrange for someone to help you with them and also basic household chores for approx. 1 week. It is advisable to refrain from work for about 1-2 weeks, depending on your occupation; however, most people who have a clerical-type job will be fit for work after 4-7 days.
It is very important that you attend to appointments in order to care of your wounds post-operatively.
You must not wear a wired bra for about 6 months.

Breast reduction is an outpatient surgical procedure which involves the reduction in the size of breasts by removing fat, skin and glandular tissue; it may also involve a procedure to counteract drooping of the breasts.
This procedure can be performed on women and men.
The main reasons for a reduction:
-
the weight of breasts can cause long term injuries to ones back, neck and hip, as well as making everyday activities very uncomfortable
-
post-pregnancy
A breast reduction operation involves reducing the amount of breast tissue whilst uplifting the breast at the same time. In order to achieve the desired outcome the surgeon moves the nipples upwards. The resulting scars will be permanently visible - in the early months they will be pink but will gradually fade to faint white lines of scar tissue and become of less significance.
Your surgeon will discuss the actual shape of the scar with you. Normally a breast reduction will take the surgeon about 3 hours to complete. However, this is dependent on your size.
The operation will always be carried out under general anaesthetic.
Following the breast reduction you must be aware that it is unlikely that you will be able to breast feed as during the procedure the nipples will have been separated from most, if not all, of the underlying breast tissue. Total or partial loss of breast and / or nipple sensitivity may occur, as well as numbness of the actual nipple and in some cases part of the breast as well.
You will be required to wear a surgical bra for up to 3 months ( day and night ) to keep the breasts well supported whilst healing takes place and to ultimately give the best possible results.

Ageing can change women’s breasts drastically: they lose their flexibility, elasticity and fullness. The result is ’slacken’ breasts. In this case the solution is uplifting the breasts. After treatment the breasts regain their close-to-original shape which can give a woman her self-confidence back.
After pregnancy women can feel that they are not as attractive as before making plastic surgery a very desirable option to creating the body they had before. Uplifting is often combined with enlargement by implants.
